Job summary
As an UX Designer, you will support one or more startups connected to Metasoft Capital by helping founders turn early ambition into practical execution. This role is built for remote startup environments where priorities can change quickly, information may be incomplete, and useful work depends on clear writing, steady ownership, and good judgment.
The role focuses on user flows, wireframes, prototypes, usability improvements, and experience architecture. You may work with founders, product teams, technical teams, operations, customers, partners, or investors depending on the startup assignment. The goal is to help the company shape the visual identity, product experience, storytelling, and creative quality that help startups look trustworthy and feel usable, while building habits that make the team more reliable as it grows.
Core responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day work connected to user flows, wireframes, prototypes, usability improvements, and experience architecture, keeping priorities clear and progress visible.
- Work closely with founders, managers, product, technology, operations, and customer-facing teams as needed.
- Create clear notes, decisions, requirements, checklists, or reports so work does not depend on memory or guesswork.
- Create high-quality visual, written, motion, or product design assets that support product and brand goals.
- Use practical judgment to balance speed, quality, cost, risk, and learning in a startup environment.
- Create practical creative assets that support real startup goals, including product adoption, launch quality, brand trust, education, and conversion.
- Work from briefs, user feedback, brand direction, product needs, and business context rather than designing in isolation.
- Maintain organized source files, version history, reusable components, templates, and documentation so creative work can scale with the team.
- Accept feedback without losing quality, explain design reasoning clearly, and help founders make better creative decisions.
- Create work that is visually or editorially strong while still serving the user, customer, product, and business goal.
- Maintain reusable creative systems, templates, and source files so future work becomes faster and more consistent.
Education and experience requirements
- Education or experience in design, visual communication, UX/UI, product design, writing, media, animation, branding, or equivalent portfolio-based work is helpful.
- A strong portfolio, case studies, shipped work, creative experiments, or freelance/startup experience may be more important than formal credentials.
- Experience with design systems, product flows, presentation design, web design, brand identity, motion, content, or production tools is valuable.
- Ability to design for clarity, accessibility, consistency, and business purpose, not only visual decoration.
- Comfort working with founders who may not yet know how to give perfect creative briefs.
- Candidates should be ready to share examples of relevant work, projects, portfolios, case studies, writing samples, code samples, dashboards, campaigns, processes, or other evidence of ability when applicable.
Helpful skills and tools
- Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, prototyping tools, CMS platforms, video tools, design systems, presentation software, file organization systems, and asset libraries.
- Portfolio or work samples showing strong visual, written, product, motion, or brand execution.
- Comfort translating business goals into creative output while accepting feedback and meeting deadlines.
- Strong ownership mindset, reliability in remote work, and comfort working with incomplete information.
- Ability to communicate progress, blockers, and tradeoffs in a simple way for both technical and non-technical teammates.
- Curiosity, humility, and willingness to keep learning as the startup changes direction or grows.
- Clear written communication, organized files, practical documentation, and reliable follow-through are important because most teams operate remotely.
Remote startup working style
- Work asynchronously when possible, document decisions, and keep teammates updated on progress, blockers, risks, and next steps.
- Be comfortable with early-stage ambiguity, changing priorities, limited resources, and the need to learn quickly from customers and teammates.
- Use sound judgment to decide when to move fast, when to ask for help, when to slow down, and when to protect quality or trust.
- Respect confidentiality, founder context, customer information, and the trust required to support early-stage companies.
Success in this role looks like
- Consistent brand quality, clearer product experiences, stronger campaign assets, and creative work that improves customer trust.
- The startup looks more credible, communicates more clearly, and gives customers a better experience.
- Creative assets become reusable systems instead of scattered one-time files.
- Design decisions support trust, usability, conversion, and brand memory.
- The startup team can point to clearer execution, better documentation, stronger collaboration, and practical improvements connected to this role.
